The program will be open to athletes that have basic swimming ability. They should be prepared to swim repetitions of 25 and 50 metres. The athletes will be taught proper technique to improve their own abilities, as well as learning new strokes and skills associated with speed swimming. Athletes should be able to swim 25 metres without assistance to be eligible for this program. The program will be limited to 50 athletes, and will run Saturdays 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Harry Bailey Pool. (Must be on deck for warm ups at 4:45 p.m.) The program runs for 30 weeks and travel to a couple of meets every year.
SWIMMING • I Can Swim Program
This program is run by the Lasers at the Harry Bailey Aquatic Centre in conjunction with Special Olympics Saskatoon. It is open to all atheltes. This program is designed to teach step by step the proper skills and abilities for swimming. the program rewards athletes with numerous progress reports and "sticker" to attach to a poster to high light the athletes' accomplishments. The first skill reward is for blowing bubbles, the last (#54) is for swimming 200 metres. The overall rewards for the athlete are significant, especially for athletes requiring high levels of attention. The program will run Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Athletes have a choice of attending once per week or twice per week. The program will be limited to 60 athletes per night. there are three sessions during the year, fall, winter, and spring.
